Mr Christopher (Chris) Forlee

A highly accomplished executive and electrical engineer, Chris Forlee brings 34 years of experience in the energy sector, spanning electricity, oil, gas, utilities, and infrastructure. His expertise extends across state-owned enterprises, government, regulatory bodies, and private sector entities, equipping him with a holistic understanding of the industry’s challenges and opportunities.

Chris holds a Master of Business Administration and a Bachelor of Science in Electrical and Electronic Engineering. His extensive leadership experience includes over 16 years in senior and executive management roles, where he has successfully led performance turnarounds, change management initiatives, and strategic business transformations. A visionary leader with strong technical acumen, Chris has demonstrated an exceptional ability to navigate complex regulatory landscapes, optimize business operations, and deliver high-impact results.

Before joining Bigen, Chris held key leadership positions, including Chief Executive Officer of the National Energy Regulator of South Africa (NERSA), where he spearheaded regulatory frameworks and strategic reforms. He also played a pivotal role at Transnet as Chief Consultant Energy, driving energy efficiency initiatives that achieved cost savings exceeding R1 billion over three years. His contributions to South Africa’s energy sector include leading government task teams on Eskom’s pricing and corporate planning, brokering a R350 billion hybrid funding deal for Eskom’s infrastructure program, and advising the Minister of Energy on strategic energy policies.
