Soshanguve Electrification Project
Challenge
As the South African government continues to make inroads into the vast housing shortage in the country, the need for professional, innovative infrastructure development specialists in various engineering disciplines remains a priority.
In the case of the government’s large housing project in Soshanguve, Tshwane, one of the needs was for an energy specialist with proven ability in delivering large, complex bulk electrical services and bulk infrastructure to provide electrical reticulation design and installation services. The housing project comprises 18 000 housing units, and efficient, timeous, on-budget electrification was one of the key requirements.
Solution
Bigen, with its proven expertise and full capability in energy provision ranging from planning services to project management and execution, was appointed to undertake the electrical reticulation design and installation in the housing units as well as project and contract management.
Besides reliably applying its extensive experience in bulk electrical services and bulk infrastructure, the Bigen team also took its trademark innovative approach in addressing the usually unavoidable challenges accompanying a large project. The scope of the contract encompassed the design and installation of electrical MV and LV reticulation, service connections and metering, and project and contract management of the phased delivery. Envisaged additional facilities and amenities include schools and business areas.
